David is narrative designer and co-founder of Tchagata Games, a creative hub based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Among their portfolio, Tchagata Games released Nandeyanen!?, a heavily Japanese market-oriented game.
By mixing an academic perspective with some gamedev experience his talk is meant to provide a fresh perspective on the Japanese game industry.
The creative process behind the shoot’em up video game Nandeyanen!? will allow him to discuss the various forms of media distribution in Japan ; to explore the specificities of video game practices and more widely of technology consumption in the country. Nandeyanen!?, a game made entirely for the Japanese public, questions the idea of an international hybridity in the video game media but also of a national identity in an entertainment product.
David studies the representations of technology in Japanese films and video games. He also writes about the Japanese forms of production, distribution and media consumption especially in the case of lucrative franchises.
